7 Hip Carries for a Short Woven Wrap

There are so many carries that can be done with a short woven wrap! Shorties are my absolute favorite so I'm delighted to give you some inspiration for what to do with them! We've focused this post and two companion posts, front carries and back carries, on base-4 to base-2 size carries, plus a post for shortie fancy finishes. Please see this post for more on what "base size" means if you're unfamiliar.
Base-4:
  • No Sew Ring Sling (can also be a front carry). Thread one end of the wrap through both rings (then I like to thread like a ring sling here but the tutorial doesn't show that - push the upper ring back and thread the wrap through the space created between the two rings) and place on shoulder, short tail down. Bring long tail around under arm and up to the rings. Bring the wrap through both rings, push the upper ring back and thread the wrap through the space created between the two rings. Make sure both rails are visible in the rings and the wrap isn't too bunched, then place baby in the pocket and tighten like a typical ring sling. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
  • Not pictured: No No No Carry (No sew, No rings, No tie). Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.

Base-3/Base-2:
  • Poppin's (can also be a front carry).  Middle marker starts at underarm, bring tail behind and over opposite shoulder and lower tail across chest. Bring lower tail under and around upper tail, then bring both tails behind and double knot. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
  • Hip Kangaroo (can also be a front carry). Middle marker starts on shoulder, bring one tail across chest, under arm, and around back to come to the front. The other tail will shoulder flip (bottom rail goes out and over top rail), then across the back and around front to meet the first tail and tie in front. Place baby in the pocket and tighten through the shoulder flip. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
  • Coolest Hip Cross Carry. Middle marker starts at underarm, bring tail behind and over opposite shoulder and lower tail across chest, under arm, and around back to come to the front. Bring the lower tail across chest to meet the upper tail and tie in slip knot. Place baby in the "X" with baby's leg in the inside pass first (leg furthest from the knot), then outside pass. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
  • Inside out Coolest Hip Cross Carry. Middle marker starts at underarm, bring tail behind and over opposite shoulder and lower tail across chest, under arm, and around back to come to the front. Bring the lower tail under the pocket, then up across chest to meet the upper tail and tie in slip knot or tie off with a ring. Place baby in the "X" with baby's leg in the inside pass first (leg closest to the knot), then outside pass. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
  • Semi Pocket Wrap Cross Carry (I have also called this Pocket Hip Cross Carry). Middle marker starts at underarm, bring tail behind and over opposite shoulder and lower tail across chest, under arm, and around back to come to the front. Bring the lower tail under the pocket, then up across chest to meet the upper tail and tie in slip knot or tie off with a ring. Place one of baby's legs in the inside pass first (leg closest to the knot), then bring the outside pass up over both legs and up baby's back. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.

Base-2:
  • Robin's Hip Carry (can also be a front carry). The ring version is described here: Start with the middle marker at the back of the neck with one tail over shoulder and one under. Thread the over shoulder through a large ring and bring the tail up over that same shoulder so there are two passes over the shoulder and the ring hangs on the chest. Bring the lower tail across the chest and up into the ring from behind, making a pocket for baby. Bring the upper tail across the back and around to meet the lower tail under baby's bum to tie. Place baby in the pocket, tighten, and tie both tails over knees and under bum. Jump to the latest tutorial on the tutorials page.
